Holocaust questions

3 things that I know about the Holocaust:
1. Thousands of people were killed.
2. Hitler was the leader of the Nazi's.
3. Not only were Jews persecuted but gypsies, communists and many people that were unliked by Hitler too.

3 things that I would like to know:
1. Why did Hitler really only like light hair and blue eyed people when his hair was dark?
2. When did the war actually start?
3. Did Hitler just take charge of Germany or was he elected like we do in the u.s?

3 things that I wonder about the book theif:
1. Did the Nazi's destroy books?
2. If the Nazi's did destroy books why did they do that?
3. How does the author use death as the narrator?
